One of the many mysteries of the breakfast world; how does one poach the perfect egg?  Honestly, I don’t really know.  I’d settle for mediocre.  Watch as I take a stab at it, encounter one particularly self-conscious slotted spatula, and end up with a fine breakfast.  Got some tips?  Let me know in a comment here, or on the video page.

Have an EGGcellent weekend!

  1. Great video. There is nothing as sublime as a poached egg on toast – The only way I can get them right is wrapping a raw egg in a twist of cling film (aka saran wrap) and dumping it in the water. Good, but fiddly and a bit gross. Will try your method! Thanks.

  2. we were just talking about slot shaming ! also if you nudge that bad boy gently with a wooden spoon once it’s in the water it’ll keep the whites all nice ‘n tucked around the yolk, leaving you with a sliiiightly less alien egg. you did it !!! -k

  3. Not a fan of poached eggs but that definitely made me laugh a lot! Keep the videos coming! They are definitely an entertaining development …

  4. That was a hillarious video. I don’t think I have ever poached an egg before. I have barely graduated from making hard boiled eggs which is still a total guessing game. Isn’t vinegar involved somewhere in egg poaching? I guess it doesn’t reall matter because your breakfast worked out.

    • Haha! Thank you! You should give a try! As for the vinegar, I’ve tried it once but it flopped; it didn’t seem to be any more of a fool-proof method than just dropping the egg in tenderly. I think it’s just a matter of practice and determination!
